Recommended Use
The Model 5500 is for use on interior sliding doors, sliding cell doors, sliding entrances, corridors or safetly vestibules. It is an economical means of putting sliding doors in a facility in that door movement is manual. (For automatic operation, see Model 1000)

Operation
The locking device is mounted in a horizontal enclosure above the floor with the switch control in any convenient location. Push button energizes a powerful solenoid that retracts the locking bar. Door moves open slightly. Remainder of door travel is manual to the full open or return to closed/locked. The locking drop bar remains open while switch is actuated.

115 VAC Operation-individual manual release is performed by manual release tool.

Automatic deadlocking upon closing.

 Sliding door lock—remote electrical release

Entire locking device enclosed—all components are inaccessible and above eye level.

Sloped cover housing—prevents accumulation of debris and the placing and storage of contraband.

Four-wheeled, dual-track operating mechanism—provides a stable, balanced door that resists inmate tampering.

Bottom door guide and lock—guards against door susceptibility to unusual travel.

Mechanical release at door—provides mechanical release in case of power failure.

  Locking Device Operators
In the closed position, the door shall be locked at the top and at the bottom of the door. Each sliding door in a row of cells shall be remotely controlled by a momentary push-button switch. Unlocking of individual sliding cell doors shall be accomplished by means of individual solenoid installed within the locking device. Each sliding door shall automatically open approximately three inches immediately upon being unlocked. The means of propelling the individual sliding cell doors shall be manual.

Horizontal Enclosure of Electrical Locking Device
Securely affixed to walls above the doors, housing shall extend and run continuously for the entire length of the cell run. The portion of the housing which makes direct contact to the wall, as well as the bottom of the housing, shall be constructed of not less than 3/16" thick mild steel plate. The front face (corridor side) of the housing shall be made of one-piece open-hearth steel share of not less than 1/8" thick; shall be removable in lengths not exceeding seven feet; shall be attached in place to prevent unauthorized removal. Top of mechanism housing which do not extend to the ceilings shall slope in such a manner as to prevent accumulation of debris or concealment of contraband.
  Controls
Mounted on the control console, a separate switch for each cell door shall be provided and clearly labeled to each corresponding door. A red light shall be mounted adjacent to each door switch, which shall indicated an unlocked condition.

Manual Release
In the event of power failure, at each door there shall be a means of unlocking the door by removing a cover in the housing and inserting a special tool to unlock and open the door.

Electrical
Electrical supply, door control wiring and control panel to be provided by others and meet national and local code requirements.

Guarantee
Equipment furnished shall be guaranteed against defects in material or workmanship for a period of one year after acceptance. The Contractor will provide a locking mechanism operations manual for the owner's use.
